Hi everyone!
We previously talked about weight gain when carrying one baby….
Do the recommendations change when we’re carrying twins??
The answer is definitely YES! We get to gain more!!
First, we need to figure out what our Body Mass Index is prior to pregnancy. Please go here to link to a BMI calculator.
Insuffiicient weight gain can lead to having smaller babies.
- BMI less than 18.5: no recommendations…insufficient data
- BMI 18-24 (normal): 37-54 lbs
- BMI 25-29.9 (overweight): 31-50 lbs
- BMI >30 (obese): 25-42 lbs
Bottom line: If we are carrying twins, we “get” to gain about 15-25 MORE pounds than if we were carrying one baby!
